The 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was held in Doha, Qatar, from Sept 28 to 29.

Under the theme “Tomorrow's Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation,” representatives of member economies discussed issues including increasing AIIB’s investment and financing for infrastructure, further enhancing development effectiveness and efficiency, and better helping members address challenges. Lan Fo’an, China’s Minister of Finance and Governor of the AIIB, attended the meeting via video link and delivered remarks.

Lan noted that, with the support of all members, the AIIB had successfully completed a smooth transition in its management and embarked on a new stage of development. He said that in the face of a complex and volatile international situation and a growing development deficit, the AIIB should remain unwavering in its commitment to multilateralism, ensuring that matters concerning all members are discussed and decided by all; remain unwavering in its original mission, steadily advancing the implementation of its strategic priorities; and remain unwavering in its commitment to high-standard operations, focusing on improving project quality and development impacts. As the AIIB’s largest shareholder and host country, China will work with all members to advance the Bank to a new stage of development in its second decade.

Lan said that this year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). China’s economy has maintained overall stability while moving toward innovation-driven and higher-quality development, he said. This not only lays a solid foundation for China’s own development but also injects strong momentum into the world economy. China will continue to inject new impetus into global development through the sense of responsibility befitting a major country with a global vision and through concrete, effective actions.

On Lan’s behalf, Chang Junhong, Assistant Minister of Finance, traveled to Qatar to attend the opening ceremony, the official session of the Board of Governors and other events. She also held bilateral meetings or exchanges with Kuwait’s Minister of Finance Yaqoub Alsayed Yousef Alrefaei, Nepal’s Minister of Finance Swarnim Wagle, Armenia’s Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan, Saudi Assistant Minister of Finance for Macro-Fiscal Policies and International Relations Abdullah bin Abdulrahman Bin Zaraah, and Bahrain’s Assistant Undersecretary for International Cooperation Affairs at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy Nawaf Hashem AI Sadeh, as well as senior representatives of other AIIB members, including Germany, Italy and Australia. They exchanged views on the AIIB’s operations and development, bilateral financial cooperation and other topics.
