The United States, the G20 Presidency, hosted its third G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting of this year in Bangkok, Thailand on Oct 15, 2026. The meeting focused on discussions of current economic developments, financial sector issues, progress in the G20 Finance Track cooperation, and the outlook for future work. Chinese Minister of Finance Lan Fo’an, accompanied by Vice Minister Liao Min, attended and spoke at the meeting.
Lan noted that the global economy currently faces multiple challenges. The immediate priority is to properly address geopolitical conflicts, rising protectionism and increasing fragmentation, so as to create a favorable environment for global growth. The G20 should enhance certainty through macroeconomic policy coordination, foster new growth drivers through structural reforms, and expand the global economic and trade pie through openness and cooperation, thereby contributing to strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive global growth. The G20 should also continue to play a leading role in improving global governance and addressing global challenges. Lan emphasized that G20 discussions on major international economic and financial issues should be comprehensive, objective and balanced. Lan also noted that this year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030). The Chinese economy has maintained overall stability while making continued progress toward innovation-driven and high-quality development.
