China’s Vice Minister of Finance Liao Min attended and delivered remarks at the inauguration ceremony marking the opening of the new premises of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations' representation in China, which was held in Beijing on March 20, 2026.
Liao extended congratulations on the successful relocation of the FAO representation in China to its new premises. He spoke highly of the important role the FAO has played in safeguarding global food security, advancing rural development and promoting the transformation of agrifood systems. Noting that China has consistently attached great importance to its partnership with the FAO and has taken proactive and pragmatic measures to firmly support steady progress in bilateral cooperation, he said that the country will continue to support the FAO in expanding and growing stronger.
Liao pointed out that China’s Outline of 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) has set accelerating agricultural and rural modernization and making solid progress in all-round rural revitalization as strategic priorities. China will continue to implement a more proactive fiscal policy to advance rural revitalization across the board in a solid manner and looks forward to the active participation of multilateral and bilateral institutions, including the FAO, in the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, he said.
He also said that China stands ready to share its experience in using fiscal policy to support agriculture, rural areas and farmers with other developing countries and that it will continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation with the FAO and the broader international community, so as to make greater contributions to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
