On June 26, 2024, the 11th Annual Conference of the Paris Forum was convened in Paris, France. The conference focused on topics such as the debt challenges faced by developing countries, debt treatment, and development financing. Liao Min, Vice Minister of Finance of China, attended and delivered a speech at the meeting upon invitation.
Liao said that in recent years some developing countries have faced pressures and challenges in debt sustainability, financing accessibility, and sustainable development due to multiple factors. China always attaches great importance to the debt issues of developing countries, making active contribution to easing their debt burdens and promoting sustainable development. He expressed the hope that all parties would take a comprehensive, fair and objective view of the debt issues of developing countries, effectively balancing the relationship between debt and development. Adhering to the principles of joint action and fair burden-sharing, all parties should contribute positively to easing debt pressures of developing countries and achieving high-quality sustainable development globally, he said.
On the sidelines of the conference, Liao also held bilateral meetings with Bertrand Dumont, Director General of the French Treasury, France's G20 Finance Deputy and President of the Paris Club; Tatiana Rosito, Vice Minister of Finance of Brazil, which holds the G20 presidency; and Axel van Trotsenburg, Managing Director of the World Bank (WB), respectively. They exchanged views on topics such as China-France cooperation within the G20 framework, China-France financial cooperation, and the cooperation between China and the WB.
