Wang Dongwei attends IFAD's 46th session of the Governing Council

Recently,the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) held its 46th Session of the Governing Council, in Rome, Italy. It was the first Governing Council meeting of IFAD convened on site since the outbreak of COVID-19. Governors held in-depth discussions and exchanges under the theme of the 46th session "Accelerating Action for Food Security". The Governing Council approved the application of Ukraine for non-original membership of IFAD,2023 budget and the budget outlook for 2024-2025 of IFAD and IOE.Governors were also briefed on the status of the Twelfth Replenishment of the IFAD's Resources (IFAD12), and officially established the Consultation on the Thirteenth Replenishment of the IFAD’s Resources (IFAD13). 
 
Wang Dongwei, Vice Minister of Finance of China, led the Chinese delegation to attend the meeting, actively promoting the China-proposed initiatives such as Global Development Initiative (GDI) and International Cooperation Initiative on Global Food Security. Wang voiced his expectation that the IFAD will take an active part in the initiatives and elaborated on China's principled position on issues concerning IFAD13 and the graduation policy. 
 
On the sidelines of the session, Wang met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and Alvaro Lario, President of the IFAD, held bilateral meetings with Tatiana Rosito, Brazil's Vice Finance Minister, and relevant officials of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, having in-depth exchanges of views on issues of common concern. Wang also held talks with some Chinese staff of the IFAD.
